Protecting Your Back At Work

Back
pain is one of the most common medical problems in the United
States. The cause is often poor posture and body mechanics
in the workplace.
A
supervised program of back protection and exercise may be
the key to alleviating and even preventing such problems.
Correct
posture and body mechanics play a vital role in preventing
back pain because pressure on the discs and strain of the
muscles, ligaments and back joints is aggravated by incorrect
posture and body mechanics. At the same time, when your posture
is good and you move your body correctly, you reduce the strain
on your back.

Are you IT Strategic?
By Blake Britton, Vice President, AXXYS Technologies

The purchase and search for IT products and services to make
the business operate more efficiently can be a daunting task.
While LMS Tech is pleased to be able to help our clients with
this “search”, there are questions that need to be asked when
looking at a replacement or even a new technology. The main
question: What is the strategy of the business from an IT
perspective? I have selected a few products that have recently
been upgraded or purchased new by some of our clients. In
each of these cases I have given a few strategic questions
that should be asked before the solution is selected.

Finding
the Lou or Irv in your business life – masters of my business
universe
Ever wonder why some businesses seem
to thrive year in and year out, regardless of the economy
or changes of the markets? Why is it they make money,
grow, and weather almost everything tossed at them? Is
it their people? Unlimited capital? Luck? Genius?
Here’s my take on it. Winning businesses have gut feelings
that work almost subconsciously to follow daily market
needs and drive productive change almost effortlessly.
While common thinking stays rigid in most businesses,
the minds of those on top just spin with ideas and actions
that seem to almost predict the future. |

So
where does this ability or skill come from? Do you buy
it? Are you born with it? NO! I know it is developed like
other behaviors in life. Being taught at some level, and
then tuned by your daily experience.
28 years ago when I started LMS two of the most important
people in my business life connected with me, Irv Saperstein
my newly found insurance broker, and shortly after as
a referral from him Lou DeFrisco, a seasoned businessman
running a small software development group. Although Lou
passed away a few years back I know he is smiling as this
is being read, and Irv, probably feeling tingles as he
is speeding his boat over to the Bahamas. Each of them
in their very different ways sat me down and set me straight.
One taught me to think about things in unconventional
ways, the other taught me that failure was just the entry
fee for success.
They both taught me that every day another problem will
come, and if I held the course, the solution would follow.
They built my confidence and at the same time taught me
how hard it would be. They both made it clear that work
must be like play, challenging and fun. You could never
get back the time you spent doing the wrong things, with
the wrong people, while those you loved waited. In the
end, they both agreed balance would make or break me.
So go out and find your Lou and Irv. Look all around you,
they come in simple wrappings but they are the gold that
will help you tame the beast of business. You’ll know
it when you find them they will make you feel big and
small at the same time. They will scare you to death and
within seconds build your confidence. Find Lou and Irv
and you’ll be on your way to a successful future. If you
already have one, then heck you just read the article
you wanted to write.

Are
you Doomed if your Office Computer Tech Quits?
By
Kim Komando

It's the
nightmare that most small businesses aren't prepared
to face: What would happen if you suddenly lost your
office computer expert? Would you be in big trouble?
The answer
usually is "Yes!" But just how much anguish,
time and money would an unanticipated departure cause
your company's operations? Ask yourself these six questions
to find out.
|
 |
1. Do you know every password?
Practically everything computer and Internet-related in
your shop has, or should have, a password. If your computer
expert left at this very moment, could you (or someone
you trust) log on to each of the computers on the network
and have the ability to make changes to system settings,
tweak the firewall and more?
Do you know the password to the server, the customer
database and other files needed to run your business?
That's why it is important for you, as the business
owner, to know all the passwords.
I learned this lesson the hard way. A few years ago,
we had a network administrator who unexpectedly resigned
by e-mail from home. I didn't know the passwords that
he set up on the system. Rummaging through his desk,
I found what looked like a password scribbled on a fast-food
restaurant napkin. Luckily, it worked.
If the tech is any good, he or she has a list of passwords.
You should have that list, too. Check with your tech
today. If a complete list does not exist, complete one.
Each of you should keep a copy. As passwords change
or are added, you should know. Set up a procedure for
this. I get an updated password sheet weekly.
