| Pretty
scary stuff. In fact the book I am presently reading,
“Atlas Shrugged”, is one of the most terrifying ones I
have ever wrestled with. Yes, I am literally wrestling
with every page and there are nearly 1200 of them!
The simple
summary of it is that when the individuals that drive
business are no longer given control and freedom to
grow, the true engine of our country’s economy will come
to a halt. As the business giants of the world become
fed up with increased and never ending government
control, they one by one leave to form their own
society.
You have to
ask yourself the question, do you want to be known as a
person who is driven to succeed? To be your best? Run
the best company, division, or group? Are you proud of
being able to make others lives better by being more
productive? For doing the work of ten with only two?
Removing waste and loss of time by doing a better job in
whatever world you operate in? OR do you think the
status quo, the old way, the past, hold our hope for a
better future? I
guess I always chose the way of bettering my world and
those around me. Like the key characters in the book I
felt somewhat uncomfortable trying to drive business
growth, striving for profits, and being know as a
business man. After reading the first 600 pages I can
now say I am proud, excited and sure that the only
success we can have as a nation is to build upon
achieving greater capabilities, greater profits,
improving our knowledge, re-igniting our inner fight for
more, and tossing away any past guilt of wanting
success, and lots of it.
The
years of non-productive false wealth production has now
come to a halt. The spirit of capitalism, freedom, and
yes, the respect of those who can make a better world is
now engulfing us. Only with this type of drive and
leadership can we bring our people back into the process
of building the skill and knowledge that will put our
nation back on the map. We are at a crossroad that only
our business leaders can help us get past. Absolutely no
amount of government intervention or borrowed money
(which really does not exist) will put us back on track.
You
may have to do a bit of work to answer this question,
but in doing it you will understand a bit more of what
is going on around us today.
