Patriotism is easy
to understand
 in America;
it means looking out for yourself by looking out for your country.

Three years ago I sent this letter out to my client base, partially as a tribute to my dad, mostly as a reminder of what drives successful small business. With the summer still warming our hearts, I thought I would again share it with you. Have a great summer!

The story of a good anchor.
A funny thing occurred to me recently. I am the father of eight children, and have owned LMS for 27 years. At age 52, I had started to think about all of the stories and great advice my dad had given me. At age 92, my dad continually reminds me that I have a lot to learn, and my respect for his words and wisdom grow daily. Let me share some of it with you.

Anchors are one of the most important things we can own in life. Rather than bore you with my last 13 years of sailing on Long Island Sound, I would rather talk about how your business and life might benefit from better anchors. You see, anchors are the people we connect to, the ones we need to depend on, the ones that we know will not bend or break when our needs and troubles start to grow.

Anchors are our business associates we can trust, our family that will always be there for us, and our friends that have always been truthful. Anchors are hard to find, and impossible to break. They help us during the worse days of our lives, and standby during the good times and build our confidence. We move forward and take chances because of them, and we sleep easier knowing they will never let us drift away.

What does this have to do with your computer network and your business?
Success comes from finding business partners that will always be there for you. The ones you can count on, day or night, to answer the phone and give you a solution, not a story. Your business partners must understand that relationships require mutual trust. An anchor connected to an anchor.

I want you to know this is the foundation of my business and personal life. It is important that you know that a relationship with LMS is one you can count on. We have been the solid anchor for thousands of businesses over the past quarter century. We deliver answers that come when you need them and solutions that allow you to prosper.

Anchors are heavy, cost money, and tend to be forgotten until needed. Listen to my father and buy the best you can afford. It will be one of the best investments you ever make. Partner with people who will always be there for you, to serve and protect your computer network investment. A solid partner can really make a difference. Ergonomics is not a four-letter word — even though many business owners may think otherwise.

That's because when business people hear the word ergonomics, they immediately think of dollar signs — as in what it will cost to outfit employee workstations with new setups to prevent sometimes crippling injuries.

But the money needed may be minimal, and your employees' health should be the overriding concern, says Dan Eisman, vice president of marketing and product development for HealthyComputing.com, an ergonomics consultant. Painless simple adjustments to a computing environment, such as getting a better chair or raising a monitor, may cost little but makes a huge difference in injuries and employee absences.

Are you spending too much on less-than-adequate backup and recovery for your business?

In this white paper, you'll learn:

  • The risks of not having an adequate business continuity plan in place
  • Technical and operational challenges of crafting an effective backup and data recovery strategy— and how to overcome them
  • Why emerging technology BDR solutions are superior to traditional approaches
